Miniature Castle on Chapman Street

It has been brought to our attention that one of our local citizens has done a grand job of private advertising for the Snow Fiesta.

"Mac" Watson of Chapman St. has built a fine 6 foot, two storied Snow Castle in his front yard. Windows and doors have been carved out and holes drilled into it from the top and colored lights placed therein, the effect is excellent.

A "Kimberley" pennant flies from the battlements and all the Watsons want now is one day of frigid weather that will enable them to give the castle a coat of ice.

The whole operation took about two weeks and was well worth the time and effort.

How about some more of us working on a front yard project for the Fiesta - the material is just lying there and all it takes is an inspiration and a shovel.

Fulfillment of a dream - that could almost be the term to use in so far as Kimberley's new "T-Bar" at the Ski Hill is concerned, as operation becomes an accomplished fact. Members of the Kimberley and District Projects Society and likewise members of the Kimberley Ski Club must all have a very wonderful feeling of satisfaction as they see the finalization of the plans.

Like a few others around, we're not a ski addict, but we do appreciate those who are, and the pleasure the new facilities will bring to them. Likewise we, as do most folks, realize the terrific potential of these facilities, as the values they can give "out of town." Like a lot of other non-skiers, we're proud to have been a member of the Projects Society since its inception, and we feel sure that now that the objective at the Ski Hill has been reached, the objective of a new arena is that much closer, and we do not think for one minute that the Projects Society will slow down in any way - but rather will gain force and we only hope those who have not joined in, will soon find it possible to do so.

Meanwhile the T-Bar is with us - its a big thing for our town and when the official opening comes in the weekend of January 24-25 it would certainly be wonderful to see one and all, who can possibly do so, turn out and make it a gala occasion. Operation and maintenance of the new ski lift will, we understand be in the hands of the Kimberley Ski Club, on behalf of the City of Kimberley.

It is our understanding from Sam Wormington that the T-bar and the rope tow will be in operation every weekend for the next three months and rates have been kept to a minimum, and there can be little doubt that skiing will be the "big thing" during the period mentioned. Good idea to, if we all let our friends and acquaintances from other areas, know of the facilities now available, and get them to come "have a look", and having once done so - they too will pass the word along and so it will grow and grow. This column would certainly like to add its congratulations to the Project Society and the Ski Club on a job well done indeed.
