Kimberley football club began as well as the Kimberley Rod and Gun Club.
Chapman Camp was incorporated as a village.
Chapman camp became incorporated in 1937 with J.T. Knighton as chairman.
The CM&S planted shade trees on every avenue and Cliff Vance put trees and hedges around the lawn.
1938 - 88 more births than deaths here in 1938
Births in Kimberley during 1938, far outnumbered the deaths for the same period. There was a total of 108 births and only
20 deaths. Among the latter were several infants who lived only a few hours.
The number of marriage licenses issued during the past year, at the local police station totalled 21.
Kimberley undoubtedly has a high birth rate, much higher than the average for the whole province, and also a lower death
rate.
1939 Future activities of Ski Club are outlined
Many problems discussed at general meeting
The skiing season is now in full swing and last Sunday the North Star Hill was literally covered with skiers. It certainly
is quite a change from six or seven years ago when a skier was looked upon as a Simple-minded person with long narrow
snowshoes, who was seeking an easy way to end his troubles. However, times change, and today skiing is advanced to such an
extent that it is fast becoming the national sport of Canada. It was also considered as very dangerous, but has since
proved to be exactly the opposite, being one of the safest of all sports.
Last Wednesday saw quite a number of skiers at the cabin, this weekly affair is becoming very popular.
A general meeting was held in the ski cabin last Sunday, with a large number in attendance. The coming tournament was the
main topic of discussion, and although a few things were left undecided, everything points to a very successful ski
carnival. Details of this important event may be found elsewhere in this issue. Another topic of discussion was the Skiers
Bulletin Board to be installed in the Home Inn. Any skier interested in social and other events can get their information
at this point. Any persons concerned were also reminded when buying material for the club, that unless the bills were
countersigned by the purchaser, the club would not be responsible.
There was considerable argument on the subject of skiers being sent to compete in outside tournaments. Although there was
no definite conclusion, it is hoped that a complete understanding will be had in the near future. The club is at present
contemplating on sending two skiers to the Western Canadian Championships at Revelstoke. With the proper cooperation of
the Revelstoke Club this trip will be realized.
Four school pupils will visit Vancouver in May
When King and Queen visits Coast
A meeting of community organizations was held at the High School, on Monday evening. It was called by Mr. F.P. Levirs,
principal of the High School, and was for the purpose of considering the feasibility of sending four pupils to Vancouver,
when the King and Queen visit there in May.
The pupils will spend nine days in the coast city and all expenses will be
paid, except transportation, which must be provided by the community.
It was decided to send four pupils from Kimberley,
2 from the Senior High School and two from the Junior High. Those from the latter must be in grade 9.
The standing of those chosen must be high in school studies, and they must be active members of school activities.
They must be nominated by five fellow students when nominations take place, and a secret ballot will be taken this week.
The ballot box will be kept in a safe place until some public function takes place, when the ballots will be counted by
Rev. B.A. Resker, EP. Levirs, and P.J. McKim.
An approximate sum of $200.00 will be needed for transportation costs. The sum of $86.32 is already available. The School
Board has made a donation of $40.00 and $46.32, which was an outstanding balance from the Coronation Fund, has also
been handed over.
The balance of the money will be raised by the Students' High School Council, probably by giving a concert or other form
of entertainment.
