May 3 - Mike Park has ousted Tom Hill as president of the United Steelworkers of America, local 651, representing the
production and maintenance workers at Cominco.
May 16- Black Bear Bridge is one step closer to being re-opened as the provincial government announced funding in the
amount of $69,612 for construction assistance on the bridge.
May 20 - The tote boards are in and the Kimberley and District United Way spring campaign came up $14,000 short of its goal
set before the campaign began on March 14. The campaign target was $65,000 and it brought in a total of $51,330.
May 24 - The Kimberley Helping Hands Food Bank distributed $21,184.42 worth of food hampers in 1987 reports Noni Muir,
director of the bank.
May 26 - Led by the Kimberley Pipe Band, the 1700 participants of the 1988 British Columbia Festival of the Arts entered
the Civic Centre before a capacity crowd and the festival was officially opened last night.
