1. Bartholomew Lake opened what year? Only certain people could fish there.
1. They were called the Lake Makers at Bartholomew Lake, nine miles out of Kimberley. The Kimberley Junior Fish and Game Club built it. They built an earth dam at the north end of the lake to make it deeper, and a widening of Wait Creek. Time and equipment was supplied by the likes of Ron's Auto Body, Stan Higgins, Jack Dean, Gale Carpenter and others. The campsite was seeded with Elephant Brand fertilizer. The restoration of a stagnant water small pond turned it into a fishing lake, for youngsters. Only children could fish there.
It's all choked out I think now. The lake opened April 12, 1963, 32 boats were on it opening day. Bill Bartholomew owned a farm there. The farm, in the early days of the North Star Mine, was a team exchange, over night stop for the ore haulage to the Kootenay River from North Star.
