THE Kimberley high school band was a hit at Expo and the Canadian Pacific - Cominco Pavilion. We Montrealers certainly had a ball! I think the members of the band had a good time. too. They received the VIP treatment and richly deserved it.
Originally. they were scheduled to play on Wednesday. May 3, but some rather inclement weather came bouncing in and they had to defer their performance until (ahem!) typical Montreal balmy weather took over the next day.
Mr. Yarwood and Mrs. Lucas. along with about 20 of the band, appeared at our pavilion at 1:00 p.m. for coffee and sandwiches. Then they went on to Expo's bandshell B for a performance at 2:00.
Several of us joined the enthusiastic audience, Having lived through two daughters' practices and performances in high school bands, I was prepared for almost anything. But the Kimberley kids played as well, if not better, as any high school band I've heard. Their balance; tone and rhythm left nothing to be desired.
They are a credit to their parents - although I suspect their parents would want bandmaster Ralph Yarwood to take a big bow at this point.
After the concert the whole gang descended on our pavilion where the staff rolled out the red carpet.
